Behind the Scenes of My Writing Process ✍️:The Heartbeat of LA'BOND

There’s something magical about writing — a quiet, almost sacred process where thoughts turn into words and words create worlds. For me, it’s more than just stringing sentences together. It’s a journey. A dance between silence and sound, imagination and reality. And behind every story I write, there’s a whole team that helps bring it to life.

Let me take you behind the scenes of my writing process, where the quiet hum of the night and the distant roar of aeroplanes become my rhythm, and where every piece is a collective creation.

1. The Spark: Capturing Lightning in a Bottle

Every story begins with a spark. Sometimes it’s a memory — a flash of growing up in Thika, chasing dreams under the Kenyan sky. Other times, it’s a feeling — that quiet voice inside me urging me to put my emotions into words. Inspiration can strike anywhere, anytime. A random conversation. A lyric from a song. Even a silent moment staring at the night sky.

But the real magic happens when the night falls. There’s a certain stillness that only the midnight hour offers. The streets are silent. The world sleeps. And I sit there, alone with my thoughts, feeling like the universe is listening. The sound of aeroplanes flying overhead keeps me company, like whispers of faraway places, reminding me that I, too, am on a journey.

2. Setting the Mood: Night Owl Vibes

My writing space is simple. A dim light, my notebook, and sometimes a warm cup of tea. No distractions — just me, my thoughts, and the sound of the world slowing down. I love writing at night because that’s when my mind is clearest. The quiet wraps around me like a blanket, and all I can hear are my thoughts and the distant hum of planes cutting through the sky.

It’s in these moments that I feel most connected to my creativity. The darkness outside feels like a canvas, and my words become the paint. Each stroke, each line, feels more alive when the world is asleep.

3. Brainstorming and Outlining: The Blueprint

Before I dive into writing, I need to map out my ideas. It usually starts with scribbles in my notebook — unfiltered thoughts, emotions, and memories. Sometimes I’ll pace around, letting the ideas simmer in my mind, piecing things together like a puzzle.

Once I’ve gathered enough thoughts, I organize them into key points. It’s like building the skeleton of the story, knowing that each piece I add will flesh it out and bring it to life.

But I don’t do this alone. My team — my incredible editor and my LA’BOND crew — are part of this process. We brainstorm together, bouncing ideas off one another, shaping raw thoughts into polished stories. Their insights sharpen my vision, helping me see angles I might have missed.

4. The Writing Flow: Riding the Wave

When the ideas are ready, I let the words flow. Sometimes, the writing comes in a rush — like a dam breaking, words spilling onto the page faster than I can type. Other times, it’s slower, more deliberate, each sentence carefully crafted.

If I hit a wall, I don’t force it. I step away, maybe listen to a song or just stare into the night. The aeroplanes above remind me to keep pushing, to keep dreaming. They’re like a promise that every journey has a destination, and every story will find its ending.

5. Editing and Polishing: Crafting Perfection

Once the first draft is done, the real work begins. This is where my editor steps in — a sharp eye, catching every detail, every misplaced word. We go back and forth, fine-tuning each sentence, ensuring that the heart of the story shines through.

And then there’s the crew — my allies who read through the drafts, offering feedback, pointing out what resonates and what doesn’t. They help polish the story until it gleams, ensuring that when I share it, it’s the best version it can be.

6. The Final Touch: Hitting Publish

The final step is always the hardest — hitting "Publish." It’s a strange feeling, like releasing a part of myself into the world. There’s excitement, but also vulnerability. Every post is a piece of my journey, a glimpse into my heart.

But when it’s done, there’s pride. Pride in the story, in the process, and in the team that helped bring it to life. I may be the writer, but behind every word is a group of passionate people who believe in the vision of LA’BOND.

7. More Than Just Words

Writing isn’t just a process for me — it’s therapy. It’s my way of understanding the world, of connecting with people, of leaving a piece of myself behind. Every story I write is a step closer to my dreams. Dreams of building LA’BOND into a platform for storytelling, music, and creativity. Dreams of making my daughter Gianna proud. Dreams of inspiring anyone who’s ever felt lost or uncertain.

So, this is my process — raw, real, and fueled by passion. It’s late nights and early mornings. It’s silence and aeroplanes. It’s a team of dreamers turning ideas into reality. And at the heart of it all, it’s a boy from Thika chasing a dream, one word at a time.

What’s your process like? I’d love to hear your thoughts and connect with fellow dreamers.

Until next time, keep chasing your light.
